Obamanomics and the Midterm Elections

By PhilosoGuy at 8 January, 2010, 6:22 pm

Obama’s domestic policy has been dominated by two events: the economic meltdown and the healthcare debate. Regardless of how you feel about healthcare, most people would agree that something had to be done about the economic meltdown. But many would argue that how Obama went about fixing the problem should have been done differently. As reports come in about the lack of stimulus money actually put to use or its delayed employment people are beginning to wonder what the government is doing to get us out of this mess.

Whether the government is to blame or not, it is clear that weak economic numbers ahead of an election year spell disaster. With the economic numbers released today that unemployment has remained at 10 percent despite Obama’s stimulus plan and hope that healthcare and green jobs will buoy the American economy. The President also unveiled another spending bill: $2.3 billion towards clean energy job creation. General economic weaknesses and ambitious spending plans during economic decline combined with labyrinthine bills like healthcare reform will ensure a Republican resurgence.
